Blue and White Brings a Dull Bathroom to Life

If your bathroom décor could use some freshening up, maybe it’s time for a bathroom home improvement that will update the space and add some energy to the room. Let’s look at a budget-friendly transformation that will take your space from tired to energized.

A color scheme that will brighten up the space is a soothing blue and white palette. White makes a bright backdrop for the serene blue to nestle against.

Evaluate What You Have

First start with your vanity. If it’s salvageable and a low-grade wood, then considering painting the exterior white. Getting rid of a drab, dark vanity will already help to brighten up the space, especially if it’s a small powder room. What shape is the vanity top in? If it’s just in need of a cleaning, you can choose a sink and countertop refinishing that will have your fixture looking brand new at a fraction of the cost to replace it.

One way to incorporate the blue and white color scheme onto the walls is to first paint the upper half of the walls a serene blue. Blue Paradise (BHG114) or Niagra (BHG115) by Better Homes and Gardens (Glidden Paint) are two colors to consider.

Once the paint is dry, install beadboard wainscoting painted white around the lower half of the walls, and then you can top it off with white chair-rail molding. This look is always in style in a modern bathroom, yet it still has a bit of a yesteryear appeal to it.

Before you move on to the floor, take a good look at your tub. If next to the new paint job it’s looking a bit dingy, then consider having a bathtub refinish. The tub will look brand new, and it’s an inexpensive fix. Now you can evaluate your floor. Do you have cheap vinyl tile you’d like to pull up? Why not consider replacing it with white ceramic mosaic floor tiles? They have  a fabulous modern and vintage appeal all rolled into one, and they won’t make a big dent in your wallet either.

Now it’s time to consider the accessories. Choose a mirror and light fixtures that will complement the look of your bathroom and add the necessary towel racks. Look for a handy towel rack that has a swivel bar that allows you to swing the rack out for better drying. Add a blue rug, towels and a shower curtain if you need one. Finally, choose a few pictures to hang on the wall to complete the look.

Voila! You’ve completed a beautiful bathroom makeover at a price that won’t break the bank.
