Refinish that Tub for a Budget Remodel

by Jane VanOsdol on July 31, 2011

Perhaps you’ve gone to great lengths to shape up your bathroom. You’ve added a fresh new coat and color of paint, installed a tile floor, and found a great deal on a new vanity and countertop in the bargain aisle. You’ve managed to remodel your bathroom on a minimal budget, but are stymied by your tub. After years of use, the finish on your fiberglass tub has dulled; worse yet, though, are the cracks that have developed in the body of the tub. Replacing the tub just isn’t an option because of your budget.

It’s not that uncommon for fiberglass tubs and showers to develop cracks caused by stress points. Unfortunately, these cracks can cause water to leak out of your tub—never a good option due to the damage it can cause to whatever is beneath your bathroom. What can you do?

Fortunately, you have another choice.

The good news is that a fiberglass tub repair can fix cracks and other damage to fiberglass tubs. This is a much cheaper option then having to remove the tub (which often causes additional damage to the tub surround and floor) and purchase a new one.

During the fiberglass repair, the repairman will determine what caused the damage in the first place, remedy that and then thoroughly seal the affected areas. After these steps are completed, your tub will be ready for its new finish.

A primer, a bonding agent and then your selected coating and sealant will be applied in this multi-step process. An added benefit to the bathtub refinishing is that you can totally change the look of your bathroom by choosing a different color for the coating that will cover your tub or shower. You can choose a gleaming white or a series of other pale shades to give your bathroom a fresh, new look.

Happily, you only have to wait 24 hours for everything to cure and dry. You’ll be amazed at the results. Not only will your tub or shower have a like-new appearance, but you’ll have also added 10-15 years to the life of your tub if you follow the proper cleaning and maintenance procedures recommended by the company.

Don’t let a dingy tub ruin the look of your new bathroom remodel. Tub refinishing will give you a like-new fixture at a price that will fit into your budget bathroom remodel.
